Tree diversity and composition in Mexican traditional smallholder cocoa agroforestry systems

چکیده
The cultivation of cocoa is a commodity great importance worldwide. In Mexico, grown in Tabasco and Chiapas states agroforestry systems since pre-Hispanic times, where under the canopy shade trees. Crops such as sugarcane extensive livestock production have gradually reduced area devoted to region. Yet, farmers keep small portions maintain local floristic diversity. This practice seems be successful contribution plant conservation. To determine management practices used by diversity products they harvest, non-probabilistic sampling was carried out 38 plots 20 × 50 m each (19 19 Chiapas). We counted identified all trees with DBH ≥ 5 cm, recording their height. estimated cover at points within plot. Our results show no tree species richness differences between states, but there were municipality level; Pichucalco (Chiapas) had highest richness. Considering species, higher density than Chiapas. Regarding only trees, also abundance both cases, obtain wide variety for self-consumption market sale from (e.g., timber, fruit, grains). these agroecosystems aids native conservation could favor increase plantations associated cultivation.

Integrative Management of Cocoa Agroforestry Systems: Promoting Long-term On-farm Diversity
In cocoa (Theobroma cacao) agroforestry systems, upper canopy trees and food crops are frequently planted for shade, diversification of farm products, and improved soil fertility. As diversification remains a top priority for farm economic and environmental sustainability, system management plays a substantial role in farm diversity, requiring long-term analysis. We measured species richness dy...

Successful extension of agroforestry to areas of the semi-arid tropics where deep reserves of water exist requires that the tree species be complementary to the associated crops in their use of water within the crop rooting zone. However, it is difficult to identify trees suitable for dryland agroforestry because most existing techniques for determining water uptake by roots cannot distinguish ...

Pacific Islands agroforestry has evolved into sustainable, diverse and productive a land use systems in many areas. We marvel at these systems, and the scientific world is trying to catch up with the traditional knowledge. At the same time, Pacific Islands farmers are abandoning their agroforestry systems in great numbers. It is mainly intensified agriculture for cash crop production that follo...
